Barbara Israel told me that she'd been searching for 20 years for a full, long-bodied Newfoundland retriever like this one that she had brought to the Winter Show. It had been made in cast iron by the Wood and Perot Co. of Philadelphia in about 1860. The shorter bodied form was made more often, but was still difficult to find. Long-bodied this one certainly was, a full 64" from nose to tail, and 30" high. Barbara pointed out that dog sculptures are currently hot in the garden antiques market, and offered to write an article for us on the subject. Of course we accepted, and hope you'll enjoy reading it later on in the year. $95,000.
